Fossilized red horn coral and black onyx inlaid sterling silver ring. Five pieces of fossilized red horn coral inlay are separated by four pieces of black onyx inlay in this ring. The fossilized red horn coral is a bright red with dark banding running through it. This red horn coral is from Utah and is about 390 million years old.  A great inland sea once covered Utah and much of the western United States.  As the earth evolved, the inland sea receded and sediments covered the coral reefs.  Over time the structure of the ancient red horn coral was fossilized and replaced by agate. The agatized red horn coral is a 6 1/2 to 7 on the Moh's hardness scale and takes a great polish. The ring is 7.5mm wide and is a size 6. The ring may be special ordered in other sizes or customized by changing the inlay color or pattern. Special orders are usually completed in 4 to 6 weeks.
